ilifu data centre planned shutdown Friday 16th January 2026 10:57:00

A planned shutdown of the ilifu data centre will be conducted on Tuesday, 27 January, to remove the current generator. The shutdown of the data centre equipment will begin at 08:00 am SAST on this day, and we expect the process to take 6 hours. All services (Slurm, Jupyter, CARTA, etc) will be unavailable during this period, and all running Slurm jobs will be cancelled as part of the planned shutdown. If you're concerned about the data integrity of your jobs, please plan to have your jobs complete before the planned shutdown at 08:00 am. We recommend that project- or user-deployed services (i.e. project/user managed VMs on OpenStack) are shut down before the planned shutdown period, otherwise these will be powered off by admin.

The ilifu facility is online and operational again. ilifu services are again accessible. Congratulations to the systems team for a smooth shut down and start up process.

The planned data centre shutdown is currently in progress. All services will be unavailable for the next few hours.
